There is likely no one more aware of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol than a law enforcement officer. Officers observe the consequences of someone driving under the influence and the impact it can have on innocent victims. Sadly, serious crashes, injuries and deaths can occur as a result of someone operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Unfortunately, a law enforcement officer in Colorado has been recently arrested for a DUI, and he has likely sought the advice of a skilled criminal defense attorney.
Reportedly, city officers noticed a vehicle traveling at night with no headlights on. Officers made a traffic stop and suspected the individual of driving under the influence. After realizing that the driver was an officer from the same jurisdiction, officers requested help from the county sheriff's department. The city police department stated that it desired to avoid a conflict of interest.
The county sheriff's department completed the investigation and executed the officer's arrest. The 24-year-old male officer was able to place bail, and he was released the following day. He faces charges of a DUI and driving without his headlights. No other details of his arrest were reported.
Charges and/or a conviction of a DUI can be damaging to an individual's life. The Colorado court system takes all cases of DUIs seriously, and the sentencing of a conviction may be affected by previous offenses, property damage or injuries that resulted from a driver's actions. A skilled criminal defense attorney can review the collected evidence and advise a client on the best strategy to approach his or her case.
