Colorado driver accused of DUI, other charges after crash

While there are a variety of different methods to legally utilize Colorado roadways, some are safer than others. For example, a bicycle may be more difficult to see in comparison to a more traditional motor vehicle, especially during the early morning hours when there is less light. Unfortunately, a man now faces accusations of DUI, among others, following a recent crash involving a bicycle.

The incident happened during the early morning hours of a day in late June. According to reports, a 33-year-old man was driving when his vehicle struck a 37-year-old bicyclist. Unfortunately, the bicyclist died in the crash.

Police say that the driver of the motor vehicle drove away from the scene. Reports indicate that police were able to take him into custody a short distance away. Though they claim that he appeared to be impaired and tests were administered to determine his blood alcohol level, the results of those tests are unclear. He now faces multiple charges; in addition to DUI, he is suspected of vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, driving without a license and reckless driving.

Unfortunately, an accident such as this forever changes the lives of everyone involved. Regardless of the accusations against the man, he has certain rights, including the right to an attorney, as he navigates the criminal justice system due to the DUI and other charges filed against him. To ensure that he has someone willing to fight on his behalf, he may opt to hire an experienced criminal defense attorney in Colorado to help him.
